I love the Lotus Pond fabric by Rae Hoekstra for
Cloud 9. It is so cheerful and you can't help but feel happy when you look at it. I wanted to use it with a less traditional pattern and found one by Jennifer Paganelli in the November/December 2014 issue of Love of Quilting called
Random Acts of Happy...how fitting! I altered the pattern a little by working some of the blocks in four instead of six. In order to match the diagonal seams I wound up having to trim the blocks of six down a bit, but overall I was pleased with the result. This was also my first attempt at free motion on a quilt and choose to do all over loops. I can't wait to keep working at that so I can get it a little more smooth down the road. This pattern was a good start with slashing through a stack of blocks and is motivating me to try more improv type techniques.
