Lotus Pond Quilt

I love the Lotus Pond fabric by Rae Hoekstra for Cloud 9.  It is so cheerful and you can't help but feel happy when you look at it.  I wanted to use it with a less traditional pattern and found one by Jennifer Paganelli in the November/December 2014 issue of Love of Quilting called Random Acts of Happy...how fitting!  I altered the pattern a little by working some of the blocks in four instead of six.  In order to match the diagonal seams I wound up having to trim the blocks of six down a bit, but overall I was pleased with the result.  This was also my first attempt at free motion on a quilt and choose to do all over loops.  I can't wait to keep working at that so I can get it a little more smooth down the road.  This pattern was a good start with slashing through a stack of blocks and is motivating me to try more improv type techniques.

Color Wheel Star

Just a quick finish on a previous posting.  I had thought about making more of these blocks but decided it would make a nice wall quilt instead.  This is a pattern from Camille Roskelley's Simplify book.  Her version is all over scrappy, but I went in color order instead.  I used some yellow variegated Aurifil thread and echo quilted three times around the star and then used 1/2 inch straight line quilting coming out around.  I used my walking foot for the quilting. This is a great pattern for scraps.

Chevron Baby Quilt

This is a small quilt made up of half square triangles using Bluebird Park by Kate & Birdie Paper Co. for Moda.  I love this line and also have another larger quilt in the works with this fabric.  This is actually the leftovers from the remaining fabric from the fat eighth bundle I purchased.  I wanted to try making a chevron quilt and this was a great small one to start with.  I quilted it along the chevron lines, every other one.  My son loves the tiny hedgehogs...what's not to love about them!

Fresh Air Table Runners

These are table runners I made from one charm pack and one mini-charm pack of Fresh Air by American Jane for Moda Fabrics.  There are two colorways in this collection, one set of primary colors and one set of pastel colors.  Some of the prints have a retro feel.  I split them up and then made four patches and two patches with them.  I trimmed the two patches to 4.5 inch squares, then I trimmed the 5 inch charms down to 4.5 inch square.  I think they make nice spring and summer table decorations.
