Long Island Quilters' Society 2016 Quilt Show

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Long Island Quilters' Society Quilt Show, Celebrating 30 Years of Quilting Together!  My mom, Nancy, is a member of this guild, along with her best friend Joan.  They've known each other since since high school and have always shared a love of crafting and sewing.  Another member of the guild Laura, has a daughter Kim who is part of another local guild that I am a member of...it's a wonderful community!  This post is a recap of some of my favorites from the show.

 Serafina "Burning Fire"
First place in the Duet Quilt - Large category was Kim Soper from Leland Ave Studios. Congratulations Kim!  This quilt also won third place in the People's Choice for the whole show.   Machine quilted by Shelly Pagliai.

Here's my mom with her quilt in the Home Decor category - The Beach (top of picture), which won an honorable mention.

My mom's best friend, Joan won First Place for this beautiful Bargello Rhapsody quilt in the Machine Quilted - Pieced - Small Category.

A few applique beauties...Woodland Fairy by Joan Munro, New Zealand Posies by Marie Martin, and Purple Passion by Nancy LaRocca.

I love this modern beauty by Kim's mom, Laura Smith called Folk Song, machine quilted by Eileen Barchi.  The blue and white checkerboard really sets off the bold florals.

Here's another modern quilt that won Judge's Choice (Pat Harrison) called Dapper Dots by Joy McKeon.

I was happy to see more modern quilts and fabrics this year in the show, and I'm looking forward to the next one in 2018!

Also check out some of the great fabric vendors from the show, it's always nice to buy from independent shops.

Are you part of a guild or have you participated in a local quilt show...I'd love to hear about it!

  1. Kim didn't tell me about this win -- punk! I know Serafina was a monster of a project (I think it's a queen, right?). I'm glad it got the recognition it deserved.

Would you believe I've never been to a quilt show?! So I appreciate the recap. It seems like there was a good mix of quilts on display. I imagine it was a delight to peruse everything. : )

  2. Thank you for sharing the show entries! All so beautiful! Looks like the show takes place in a tent, is it part of festival? Looks like good lighting in the white tent.

  3. Such beautiful entries. I love that there are two generations of quilters sharing their passion. I miss having my own mom to share my quilting. There were no guild during her time, but that didn't impede her, and later she enjoyed coming to my guild shows to see my quilts (again). Thanks for sharing and for writing about friends and family who share their quilting.

  4. Thanks for posting about this here, Judy! I'm blushing! I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it to the show myself, I would have loved to walk the rows of quilts with you! Next year, I'm hoping you will enter some of the great quilts you've made this past year, and I'll be posting about you!
